Autobaud on a Service Port

This chapter describes the GTS 205 and GTS 250 autobaud feature, which is available for communication between your GTS and the terminal. It includes the following sections:

The GTS 205 and GTS 250 have an autobaud feature that senses the terminal's baud rate if the terminal is set to 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19,200, or 38,400 bits per second. By default, the baud rate is set to 9600 bps.

To change the baud rate:

: 1. Set the terminal or PC communications program to the desired baud rate.
: 2. Press Break and then press any letter or number key or press Enter.

Note: Some terminal emulation packages use a different key than Break to send a break message. See your software documentation for more information.

The GTS adjusts the baud rate on a service port to match the baud rate of the terminal.

Fixed Baud Rate

You can also set a fixed baud rate on the service port. To set the baud rate:

: 1. At the Config> prompt, type set baudrate and press Enter.
: 2. When prompted, enter one of the available baud rates.

The new fixed baud rate takes effect immediately, and the autobaud feature is disabled. To enable the autobaud feature, use the set baudrate command to set the baud rate to 0 (zero).

If you set a fixed baud rate, you can still press Break to change the baud rate during Boot PROM.
Using a fixed baud rate lets you set the rate to 300 baud.
