Monitoring the Router

There are five status lights on the front of the router. These lights indicate the current overall status of the router.

The following table defines the states of the router's status lights.

States of the Status Lights
State When . . .
OFF Light is not ON.

Slow BLINK Light flashes every 1 to 2 seconds.

Fast BLINK Light flashes 3 to 4 times per second.

WINK Light is almost always ON, but periodically turns OFF for a fraction of a second.

ON Light is always on and never winks or blinks.

Front Panel Status Lights
Light State Meaning
PWR OFF

No DC power to the router. DC voltage is out of tolerance.

Slow BLINK
Fast BLINK
WINK

DC voltage is intermittent and unreliable.

ON

DC power is OK.

OK OFF

Router failed diagnostic test.

Router is no longer running software.

Slow BLINK

Router is loading router software.

Router is running power-up software.

Fast BLINK

Router is running diagnostic software.

WINK

Router is running router software.

ON

Router is no longer running software.

WAN OFF

WAN port is not operational or enabled.

Slow BLINK
Fast BLINK

N/A

WINK

WAN port is operational and is sending or receiving packets.

ON

WAN port is operational, but there is no network traffic.

ETH 1 ETH 2 OFF

Ethernet port is not operational.

Slow BLINK

Router is downloading a file via the Ethernet port.

Fast BLINK

N/A

WINK

Ethernet port is operational and is sending or receiving packets.

ON

Ethernet port is operational, but there is no network traffic.

The router also has two status lights (LEDs) for the LAN connector on the back panel. The left light is for link status, and the right light is for activity status.

OFF

No physical connection to the Ethernet hub or PC.

Slow BLINK
Fast BLINK
WINK

Unreliable connection to Ethernet or hub.

ON

Proper physical connection to Ethernet or hub.

Activity
(RJ-45)
(Right)

OFF

No network traffic to or from the router.

Slow BLINK
Fast BLINK
WINK
ON

Ethernet port is sending or receiving packets.
