Monitoring Your 3000 Series D
Secure Gateway Router


You can monitor your 3000 Series D by checking the status lights on the front panel of your gateway router and also on the connectors and modules on the back panel of your gateway router.

Ethernet Voice Module

Front Panel

The status lights on the front of the 3000 Series D indicate the current overall status of the gateway router.

Light State Indicates . . .
PWR
(Power)
On

Blinking

Off

Power supply is operating within its
specifications.

Bad power supply.

Power is turned off, or power supply is bad.

OK On

Blinking

Off

3000 Series D is running its operational software.

3000 Series D is running its diagnostic or startup (BOOT) software.

3000 Series D is not running.

ALM On


Off

The 3000 Series D detected a noncatastrophic hardware failure during power up.

Power is turned off or unit powered up okay.

Ethernet Fixed Router Connector

The fixed Ethernet connector has two status lights. The left one is for link status, and the right one is for traffic activity status.

Light State Indicates . . .
Left (Link Status) On

Blinking

Off

Ethernet connection is established.

N/A

No Ethernet connection established.

Right (Activity Status) On

Blinking

Off

N/A

Traffic is being sent or received over the Ethernet connection.

N/A

Note: The Ethernet port on the fixed Ethernet connector auto-negotiates
10/100 Mbps and half/full duplex operation.

Ethernet Router Module

The Ethernet connector on the Ethernet router module has two status lights. The left one is for traffic activity status, and the right one is for link status.

Light State Indicates . . .
ACT (Activity Status) On

Blinking

Off

N/A

Traffic is being sent or received over the Ethernet connection.

N/A

LNK (Link Status) On

Blinking

Off

Ethernet connection is established.

N/A

No Ethernet connection established.

Note: The Ethernet port on the Ethernet router module connector operates at 10 Mbps and does not support auto-negotiation of half/full duplex operation.

Ethernet Voice Module

The Ethernet voice module has two status lights, one for link speed and one for link status.

Light State Indicates . . .
100 On

Off

The port is set to 100 Mbps operation.

The port is set to 10 Mbps operation.

LINK Green, Solid

Yellow, Flashing

Red, Solid

Ethernet connection is established.

Traffic is being sent or received over the Ethernet connection.

No Ethernet connection established.

DDS CSU/DSU Router Module

The DDS CSU/DSU router module has three amber status lights.

Light Indicates . . .
ALM Alarm condition indicating the loss of loop current, bi-polar violations, loss of signal, out of service/out of sync, out of frame, and unmatched control code.

TST Module is in loopback test mode.

LOS Loss of signal indicating that the module is unable to sync to the incoming data stream.

E1 Router Module

The E1 router module has three amber status lights.

Light Indicates . . .
ALM Alarm condition indicating the following:

TST Module is in loopback test mode.

LOS Loss of sync indicating that the module is unable to sync to the incoming data stream.

ISDN Router Modules

There are three green status lights on the ISDN U and S/T modules. These lights indicate the ISDN BRI status of the two B and one D channels. Both B and D channel lights go off when you restart the gateway router.

Light State Indicates . . .
D On

Blinking

Off

ISDN S/T module is linked to the telephone company.

Traffic is on the D channel.

ISDN S/T module is not linked to the telephone company. This is an error in North America but okay in Europe.

B1 On

Blinking

Off

Call established on the B1 channel.

Traffic is on the B1 channel.

B1 channel is not in use or is idle.

B2 On

Blinking

Off

Call established on the B2 channel.

Traffic is on the B2 channel.

B2 channel is not in use or is idle.

SDSL Router Module

The SDSL router module has three amber status lights.

Light Indicates . . .
ALM Alarm condition indicating a loss of communication between the SDSL module and the host processor.

TST Module is in loopback test mode.

LOS Loss of sync indicating that the module is not activated with the DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Loop Access Multiplexor).

T1 CSU/DSU Router Module

The T1 CSU/DSU router module has three amber status lights.

Light Indicates . . .
ALM Alarm condition indicating standard blue, yellow, or red alarm conditions.

TST Module is in loopback test mode.

LOS Loss of sync indicating that the module is unable to sync to the incoming data stream.

T1 and E1 Voice Modules

The T1 and E1 voice modules have two status lights. The lights display as described in the following tables.

Loss of Carrier (LOC) Light

LOC Light State Indicates . . .
Off

No power connected to the unit.

Green On

Carrier present

Red On

No carrier present. Cable is not connected or broken.

Loss of Sync (LOS) Light

LOS Light State Indicates . . .
Off

No power connected to the unit.

Green On

Module is able to sync to the incoming data stream.

Red On

Module is unable to sync to the incoming data stream. Cable is not connected or broken.
