Upgrading Software for the 3000 Series Analog Voice Module

This procedure assumes you have the following:

The following is the procedure to upgrade the 3000 voice module software to Release 01.01.00.

Getting the New Software

1. Get the Zip file that contains the new software, 99_01313.zip, from the Nx Networks FTP site, or obtain it from Nx Networks Customer or Field Service. Place the file in a directory on the PC that is running the NetrixView 2000 application.

2. Unzip the files into a subdirectory named r1_1_0, or a logical name of your choice.

3. You should have the following files in the subdirectory:

bootrom.bin 606076 Jul 19 10:41
uaiemtbl.bin 67,760 Jul 19 10:42
uaitable.bin 745,360 Jul 19 10:42
xps_850.Z 1,774,439 Jul 19 10:45
xps_850.gd 659,218 Jul 19 10:45
xps_850.ge 445,623 Jul 19 10:45
xps_850.gh 536,087 Jul 19 10:45

Updating the Boot Code

To update the boot code, you

1. On the PC from which you are loading the new software, change to the directory where the new software is located. For example,

c:cd r1_1_0\

2. Run FTP to the IP address of the voice module. For example,

c:\r1_1_0>ftp 192.168.1.2

The software prompts you for the User and Password. The user is "netrix" and the password is "techtech."

User: netrix
Password:techtech

3. Change to binary mode.

Note: This step is VERY IMPORTANT.

ftp>binary

4. To watch the progress of the file transfer, enter hash.

ftp>hash
Hash mark printing On <2048 bytes/hash mark>.

5. Change to the xps subdirectory and put the new bootrom.bin file into the directory.

ftp>cd /ata0/sys/test.rel/xps
ftp>put bootrom.bin

Note that this file is large, so the put command may take several minutes to complete. The hash feature lets you follow the progress of the file transfer with the printing of # characters.

6. Verify that the file was successfully transferred and the resulting file is the same size as the original file by using the ftp> dir command.

7. Close the FTP session.

ftp> bye

To install the boot code, use the NetrixView 2000 software:

1. In the NetrixView software get Status on the Flash Module.

2. Click on Flash File System.

3. Click on Install Bootstrap, and respond with another click on the confirmation pop-up.

The software immediately informs you that it is done, but you must wait at least 15 seconds.

To complete the boot code update process, restart the 3000 Series using the command line interface:

* restart
Are you sure you want to restart the gateway? (Yes or [No]): y

Copying the New Software to the Voice Module

Next, copy the remaining new software files to the Voice Module file system. To do so,

3. Change to binary mode.

ftp>binary

4. To watch the progress of the file transfer, enter hash.

ftp>hash
Hash mark printing On <2048 bytes/hash mark>.

5. In the /ata0/sys/ directory, create the following new subdirectories for the software upgrade files:

ftp> cd /ata0/sys/
ftp> mkdir r1_1_0 [or similar, based on the software upgrade rev.]
ftp> cd r1_1_0
ftp> mkdir xps
ftp> cd xps

6. Put the following files in the new directory (/ata0/sys/r1_1_0/xps).

ftp> put bootrom.bin
ftp> put uaiemtbl.bin
ftp> put uaitable.bin
ftp> put xps_850.gd
ftp> put xps_850.ge
ftp> put xps_850.gh
ftp> put xps_850.Z

(For convenience, you can use the mput command to put multiple files per command line.)

7. Verify that the files were successfully transferred and the resulting files are the same size as the original files by using the ftp> dir command.

8. Close the FTP session.

ftp>bye

Setting Up the Voice Module to Use the New Files

Now that the new files are in place, you must tell the voice module to use the new directory when booting.

1. On the NetrixView 2000, access the 3000s image.

2. Get Status on the Flash Module.

3. Click on FMS (File Management System).

4. Select sys and click on Read Entry.

5. Select the new software directory, for example, r1_1_0.

6. Click on File Utilities.

7. Click on Create Link.

8. In the source line, delete all of the path up to the directory name (r1_1_0 should be the only entry on the line).

9. In the destination line, type active.slk and press Return (active.slk should be the only entry on the line).

10. Select Replace and then Link, a pop-up should then say "Link created."

To cause the Voice Module Processor to boot using the new software, restart the 3000 Series using the command line interface:

* restart
Are you sure you want to restart the gateway? (Yes or [No]): y
