Setting Up the Network Management System Software

Setting Up the Network Management System Software On a Sun Workstation

Creating the Initial Virtual Network

Specifying the Active Software Release on a Sun Workstation

Installation Overview

The software you are installing is on the 3000 Series Analog Voice Configuration Utility CD.

Note: The NetrixView 2000 Installation Guide, which is on the CD, has more detailed instructions. To read online documents before installing the software, open the DOCMENU.PDF file on the CD and click on the document you wish to read.

To view the documents, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 with Search plug-in installed on your computer. If you need to install Reader, load it from the CD as described in the README.TXT file on the CD.

If this is the initial installation on a Sun workstation:

1. Load the software from the CD. See Loading Software on a Sun Workstation on page 4.

2. Set up the network management system. See

If this is the initial installation on a PC:

1. Load the software from the CD (this automatically sets up the network management system). See Loading Software on a PC on page 5.

2. Create an initial virtual network. See Creating the Initial Virtual Network on page 8.

Note: NetrixView 2000 runs on Windows 95 and 98. It does not run on Windows NT.

If this is an update installation on a PC or Sun workstation:

1. Load the software from the CD. See

2. (Sun only) Select the active software release. See Specifying the Active Software Release on a Sun Workstation on page 9.

Note: The Release Notes may provide information on additional tasks, if necessary, such as installing new component defaults, new default status primitives, and new maps.

Loading the Software from the CD

These procedures explain how to load network management system and product software from the CD to the network management system workstation.

Loading Software on a Sun Workstation

1. Open a CDE login window on the Sun workstation and log in as root.

2. Insert the software distribution CD into the CD-ROM drive.

3. Open a terminal window and enter the following command.

cd /cdrom/cdrom0

4. Enter the following command to load the NetrixView 2000 software into the default directory (/opt/NETRIX).

pkgadd -d noa_nms/rel#/sparc NETRIXnoa

Note: Each release number (rel#) is unique. Before entering the pkgadd command, view the directory structure and determine the software package's release number. If the package has more than one release, use the highest number.

5. During installation, several messages display. Answer y if any of the following questions appear, even if asked to overwrite older files.

Do you want to install these as setuid/setgid files? [y,n,?,q]

Do you want to continue with the installation of <package_name>? [y,n,?]

Do you want to install these conflicting files? [y,n,?,q]

When the software has completely loaded, the following message displays.

Installation of NETRIXnoa was successful.

6. Enter the following command to load the documentation into the default directory (/opt/NETRIX).

pkgadd -d doc/rel# NETRIXdoc

7. During installation, several messages display. Answer y if any of the following questions appear, even if asked to overwrite older files:

Do you want to continue with the installation of <package_name>? [y,n,?]

Do you want to install these conflicting files? [y,n,?,q]

When the software has completely loaded, the following message displays:

Installation of NETRIXdoc was successful.

8. To remove the CD after installing software packages, enter cd / and, at the next prompt, type eject.

Loading Software on a PC

1. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive. Auto-play should activate the installation package. If not, double-click setup.exe in the root directory of the CD.

2. Once the Welcome screen appears, click Next.

3. Enter your NetrixView 2000 node number, which is number 1.

CAUTION:
If you are updating a NetrixView 2000 installed on your PC, select the same node number and data directory used previously. Otherwise, you may lose the node's existing database.

4. Select the destination drive and directory where you want to place the NetrixView 2000 installation software.

5. Select the destination drive and directory where you want to place the NetrixView 2000 data.

Note: The software installation directory and the data directory must be on the same drive.

6. Select one of the following installation types:

Typical—installs NetrixView 2000 software, and, if not already installed on the system, Winsock2.

Full—installs NetrixView2000 software and documentation, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and, if not already installed on the system, Winsock2.

Custom—allows you to specify which software packages to install (listed above under Full).

7. Select a program folder for the NetrixView 2000 icon.

8. If the node number you entered in step 3 already exists, the prompt asks if you want to overwrite the old directory and install a new boot database. Select NO (recommended) to preserve the existing database or YES to overwrite it.

CAUTION:
If you select YES, you will lose your configuration information, and the newly installed NetrixView 2000 will automatically run in boot mode in a later step in this installation. See the NetrixView 2000 Installation Guide for further instructions.

9. If you elected to install Adobe Acrobat, respond to the screens asking questions, such as where to install the program.
