Using DDS CSU/DSU

This chapter describes the commands available for configuring a DDS CSU/DSU module in your router. It includes the following topics:

 The following is a list of physical device features the DDS (Digital Data System) module supports.

For testing purposes, you can connect the DDS CSU/DSU back-to-back with another DDS device using a short crossover cable.

 The DDS CSU/DSU does not support the following:

DDS ELS Messages

 The DDS software does not have a separate ELS subsystem. Message 47 in Serial Line (SL) ELS subsystem applies to DDS modules.

Displaying the DDS Prompts

The DDS configuration applies to a physical device. If you have multiple interfaces on one device, it does not matter which Circuit Config <NET-#> prompt for the device you use to get to the DDS configuration prompt.

To display the DDS Config <NET-#> prompt,

1. To see a list of devices, enter list devices at the Config> prompt. To see a list of interfaces, enter list interfaces at the Config> prompt.

2. Enter the network command to display the circuit configuration prompt. The network number is the number of a DDS interface.

To display the DDS <WAN1> prompt,

1. To see a list of devices, enter list devices at the + prompt.To see a list of interfaces, enter list interfaces at the + prompt.

2. Enter network followed by the number of the interface you want to monitor.

DDS Commands

Table 1 summarizes the DDS commands.

Press Space twice after you type a command to display the available parameters for each command. Enter help for information about using the command line interface.

[C] means the command is available at the DDS Config <NET-#> prompt.

[M] means the command is available at the DDS <WAN#> prompt.

Command Function
Disable [M] Disables back-to-back-master.

Enable [M] For testing purposes, enables the DDS module to be master and provide clocking.

Exit [C] Returns to the previous prompt.

List [C] Lists the configuration of the DDS interface.

Parameters [M] Displays current runtime configuration of the DDS module.

Set [C] Configures the DDS CSU/DSU.

Statistics [M] Displays statistics for the DDS module.

Disable [M]

Disables back-to-back-master.

Syntax: disable

Enable [M]

To use the DDS module for back-to-back connection with a DDS module in another router for testing purposes, enable one DDS module to be master and provide clocking.

Syntax: enable

back-to-back-master
Example: enable back-to-back-master

Exit [C]

Returns to the previous prompt.

Syntax: exit

Circuit Config <NET-1>

List [C]

Lists the current configuration of the DDS interface.

Syntax: list

Example: list

Channel speed: 56K Primary

Parameters [M]

 Shows whether you enabled back-to-back master on this DDS module.

Syntax: parameters

Example: parameters

Set [C]

Sets whether DDS uses 7 or 8 data bits for each character it sends. Your service provider supplies this information.

By default, DDS uses 7 data bits, which is called 56K primary

If your service provider's line uses B8ZS (Bipolar with Eight Zero Substitution) signaling, set the speed to 64K clear channel, which means the software uses 8 data bits per character.

DDS does not detect an incorrect value of this setting, so you need to make sure the speed is set in accordance with your service provider's configuration.

Syntax: set channel-speed

Statistics [M]

 Displays statistics for the DDS module. The counters contain the number of occurrences of the various violations since the last reset or the most recent clearing of the statistics for this interface. (To clear statistics for an interface, enter clear followed by the number of the interface you want to clear at the + prompt.)

Note: ELS message SL.047 contains DDS interrupt status event messages. The SL handler/layer reports the special events affecting a DDS line in standard SL form
