Displaying the Ethernet Prompts

To display the Ethernet configuration prompt

1. Enter list interfaces at the Config> prompt to display a list of interfaces.

2. Enter network followed by the number of the Ethernet interface.

Config>network 0
Ethernet interface configuration
ETH config>

To display the ETH> prompt

1. At the Monitor> prompt, enter list interface to display a list of interfaces configured.

2. At the Monitor> prompt, enter network followed by the number of the Ethernet interface.

Monitor>network 0
ETH>

Ethernet Commands

This section describes the Ethernet commands.

Press Space twice after you type a command to display the available parameters for each command for your router. Enter help for information about using the command line interface.

[C] means the command is available at the ETH config> prompt.

[M] means the command is available at the ETH> prompt.

Command Function

BRS [C] [M] Displays the bandwidth reservation system configuration or monitoring prompt.

Collisions [M] Displays collision statistics.

Exit [C] [M] Returns to the previous prompt.

IP-Encapsulation [C] Sets the IP encapsulation as Ethernet type 8137 or Ethernet 802.3.

List [C] Displays the connector type and IP encapsulation.

Mode [C] Lets you set the Ethernet device to either half duplex or full duplex.

Qos [C] [M] Displays the Ethernet QOS configuration or monitoring prompt.

RJ45-Type [C] Sets the cable type.

BRS [C] [M]

Displays the Bandwidth Reservation System (BRS) configuration or monitoring prompt. See Using Bandwidth Reservation and Priority Queuing for information on the commands available at this prompt.

Collisions [M]

Shows the counts of transmissions for packets that incurred collisions before successful transmission. The counters tally the count of packets successfully sent after the specified number of collisions for the range of 1 to 15 collisions.

Note: Increasing numbers of packets transmitting with collisions and higher numbers of collision per packet are signs of transmitting onto a busy Ethernet.

Clear these counters using the clear command at the Monitor> prompt. This data is exported via SNMP as the dot3CollTable MIB.

Returns to the previous prompt.

IP-Encapsulation [C]

Selects an encapsulation format for IP.

Syntax: IP-encapsulation

Selects Ethernet type 8137.

Example: ip-encapsulation ethernet

ieee-802.3

Selects Ethernet 802.3 without 802.2.

Example: ip-encapsulation ieee-802.3

List [C]

Displays the current configuration of the Ethernet interface.

Syntax: list

Example: list

Connector type:            RJ45 STP (10BASET)
IP Encapsulation:          ETHER

Mode [C]

Some hardware platforms support both full- and half-duplex. This command lets you set the Ethernet device to either half duplex or full duplex. By default, Ethernet runs in half-duplex mode.

Syntax: mode

Example: mode full

Qos [C] [M]

Displays the Ethernet Quality of Service (QOS) configuration or monitoring prompt. See Using Ethernet Quality of Service (EQOS) Mapping for information on the commands available at this prompt.

RJ45-Type [C]

Sets the cable type to RJ45 (10BaseT) UTP (100 Ohm) or STP (150 Ohm).

Syntax: rj45-type
