ISP Dial Setup

Attach the console cable between the COM port on the PC that will be used to configure the router and the router's console connector and use some terminal emulation package (WlNTerm, HyperTerm) on your PC. (for the Dragon Products you will connect through your LAN to the IP address 192.168.1.1)

This will be a 'direct connect' with:

• 8 data-bits
• 1 stop-bit
• no parity and hardware flow control

Facts:

The Internet Service Provider (ISP) gave you a phone number to dial to reach them.
Phone number is (555)555-1000
The ISP told you your end of the WAN link has an Internet Protocol (IP) address. The IP address is in two parts:

• IP address 206.51.17.1
• IP mask 255.255.255.0

• IP Address 206.51.17.2
• The IPmask: 255.255.255.0

Your modem is a USR Sportster 33.6 configurable modem.

You know that there is a unique IP address available for use on your Ethernet port. The IP address for your Local Area Network (LAN) is

• Give this modem a name, "usr" (US Robotics). Use this name to get to a menu for it's configuration.

• Here you name the remote and add the phone #.

Address name (1-23 characters)? remote

Network dial address (1-31 digits)? 9,15555551000

• 9 gets you past the PBX. Otherwise put in the # just as if you were dialing by telephone.
